Although I didn’t actually buy anything, Vera and I spent a lot of time today looking at beautiful clothes. At Origins, owner Judy Margolis showed off new collections from several Japanese designers: feather-soft jackets that combined quilting with textured, shibori-dyed silk in subtle patterns; flowing silk capes punctuated by little tufts of fluff; and outfits that combined many layers of gossamer fabrics.
We also looked at kitchenware, toys, and jewelry — and, in a consignment shop, Vera found a purple linen dress that fits her as if it were designed just for her.
But one of the most visually pleasing things I saw, all day, was the pattern of ice on San Francisco Street. I guess snowplows don’t go down this narrow street, even though it’s right in the center of Santa Fe. Obviously, many cars had driven over the surface, packing the ice down and creating a texture that looked to me like an abstract painting. Here it is, with just a little bit of polishing via Photoshop:
Mmm. Even though it’s snow and ice, your tales of travel in the south are warming my winter days in Wisconsin!
